Chainsaw Safety Training

Details: Northern Star Council is offering Chainsaw Safety Training on several dates, different camp locations. Chainsaw training is required if you are planning to operate a chainsaw on Northern Star Council camp properties. Events such as Conclaves and Alumni Work Weekends benefit from trained volunteers. Cutting is always done at the discretion of the Camp Ranger and/or council staff. Combined BB Gun & Archery Rangemaster Training

Details: Through some very dedicated volunteers the council is offering opportunities for BB Gun and/or Archery Rangemaster trainings. These trainings will allow unit leaders to run their own ranges at our council camps. Find an adult from your Pack/Troop/Crew to attend one of these trainings so you are ready to offer BB Gun and Archery for your unit youth. Certification is for 2 years. BB Gun Archery Training

COPE & Climbing Training

Details: Spring 2018 COPE and Climbing Trainings Northern Star Council will offer three opportunities for COPE and Climbing training for camp staff and Scouting volunteers this spring: https://scoutingevent.com/250-spring2018copeclimbing April 27-29, Kiwanis Scout Camp Covers: Climbing Foundations I (able to assist running a climbing tower at a Northern Star Council property) Friday evening accommodations are available Training will run from 8:00AM on Saturday to 3:00PM on Sunday Fee: $30 per participant Ages 16 and up May 31-June 7, Tomahawk Scout Reservation Covers: Climbing Foundations I and II, COPE Level I and II (able to open a low/high COPE course or climbing tower at a Northern Star Council property with a trained assistant) Arrive by 7:00PM for Thursday evening's introduction Training concludes Thursday by 3:00PM Fee: $50 per participant Ages 21 and up June 8-9, Kiwanis Scout Camp/Taylors Falls Pre-requisite: Climbing Foundations I and II (or instructor permission) Training will run from Friday morning to Saturday afternoon Fee: $50 per participant Ages 16 and up A detailed agenda will be sent to all registered participants ahead of the training. Registration includes meals, overnight accommodations, training materials, equipment use, and any necessary transportation during the course. Please bring toiletries, sleeping bag, pillow, and clothing appropriate for activity and weather including closed-toed shoes.

LNT Trainer Course Registration

Leave No Trace Trainer Course Are you ready for your High Adventure Trek? To find out attend the 100%, completely OUTDOOR, Leave No Trace Trainer Course!!! Learn the tactics you need to reduce camping impact. Practice it in the field. Prove it, teach a LNT principle to the group! When: June 2-3rd , 2018 Where: Stearns Scout Camp. Arrive June 2nd Saturday am by 7:30 at Johnson Shelter. Graduation 1:30 pm Sunday. Depart after cleanup. Cost: $45. includes food, materials and LNT Trainer recognition Pre-req: Attend the prep teleconference before the course. Take the online LNT Awareness course (http://lnt.org/learn/online-awareness-course) prior to coming to class; bring your certificate. What to Bring: tent/hammock, sleeping bag, pad, small day pack for hiking, camp chair, mess kit and utensils, water bottle, bug spray, rain gear and usual personal gear. Bring props for your teaching assignment. Assignments and additional information will be sent prior to the course.

Wilderness First Aid & CPR/AED

Red Cross CPR/AED and Wilderness and Remote First Aid (WRFA) - training required for 2 members of each Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Summit crew, and highly recommended for unit backcountry camping. Successful participation results in 2-year Red Cross certifications. $124 for all three CPR, AED, and WRFA.

Youth participants must bring proof that age is over 14 years.
